Class IX Science Circular Motion - Lesson 3

Project Based Learning
Lesson 3
Plan Phase
3.1 Work Breakdown, Products and Milestones:
List the project task and, if possible at this stage include the sub-tasks. For each task add the  product that will be created and indicate it will be a milestone.
Project task: ‘Understanding Centripetal force’
Subtasks: (1) Introduction to topic: “What makes body move in circular paths?”
(2)Explaining circular motion by introducing basic concepts of vectors
                     (3) Applying the concept acquired in everyday life activities like “ why we tend
to be thrown out while negotiating a curve………”, “Bicycle rider leans
inward when pedaling a curve………”    etc.
                   (4) Activity 1: To create situations connected to circular motion like …..a bucket
full of water when whirled do not spill ………
Activity 2:  Bicycle rider leaning inward when pedaling a curve do not fall
                      inwards………
                     (5) Investigatory project: In the light of the above said concepts do a research
on the point “Why roads are banked ? “
                   (6) Presentation: An oral presentation  of the student who did the best
presentation and a   slide show on “banking of curves/ roads”  by teacher
                      guide.
                       (7) Research : online, NCERT text class XI & library.

3.2 Role definition:
List the roles team members will fulfill in the project.
Project Leader:  Teacher in charge.
Researchers: ADITI NAIR, ARCHITHA NANDA KUMAR, AARJAV ANIL KUMAR.
PROJECT REPORT: all students of class IXA
Presenter: AARJAV ANIL KUMAR

3.3 Task schedule:
Note start and end dates for the project.
Include expected dates to start specific tasks
PROJECT TASK: Starting date:    24-06-2016
                                Finishing date:  05-08 -2016
PROJECT:  Why roads are banked ? “

3.4 Special Activities Plan:
List any special activities (e.g. Field trips or guest speakers) including dates.
Demonstration activities to exhibit effects of centripetal force, slide show on everyday life situations related to effects of centripetal force.

3.5 Resource Plan:
List resource that will be required during the project and any other date constraints associated with them.
Resource : Computer lab, library

3.6 Direct Instruction:
List any planned direct instruction sessions and link them to specific tasks if appropriate.
DIRECT INSTRUCTION SESSIONS : Class session for introducing the concept, demonstration activities  related to the topic, a session to brief about the project and explain how to do it.

3.7 Reviews and checkpoints:
Describe how you will incorporate review meetings and checkpoints in the project
Discussions  on progress ,successes & challenges and hurdles will be done fortnightly ina20 minutes conference.

3.8 Assessment plan:
Describe the balanced assessment plan for the project. List products that will be assessed during the project. List rubrics that need to be created before project launch.
Rubrics will be used for accessing final presentation.
